Inattentive Driving Part Deux? North Texas Semi Accident Kills Three

Earlier today I posted on the northeast Oklahoma tractor-trailer accident that killed 10 people on June 26, 2009. I reported today that newsok.com is reporting that the investigation in the accident is pointing to driver inattention. Now, only few hours after making that post, newsok.com is reporting that 3 people are dead in a fiery accident just south of the Oklahoma border on I-35. The incident is eerily similar to the June 26, 2009 Oklahoma semi collision that killed ten people.

Is this another example of inattentive driving of a tractor-trailer resulting in the needless death of three people? I don’t know. However, similar to the Oklahoma accident, the initial reports are stating that the driver never slowed before crashing into the stalled traffic. The Associated Press article states that

A tractor-trailer slammed into backed-up traffic on Interstate 35 near the Texas-Oklahoma border Monday, killing three people and leaving the northbound lanes of the heavily traveled highway closed for most of the afternoon.

Trooper Mark Tackett said an 18-wheeler driven by James Crayton, 59, of Dallas, apparently never slowed before slamming into the rear car of the jam. That car, driven by Anthony Brandon with wife, Kimberly, as passenger, exploded on impact, killing both.

Our prayers and thoughts go to the families. It’s truly a sad day when anyone dies needlessly on our interstates.
