In reading the paper lately I’ve noticed quite a few tractor trailer accidents and it got me thinking on the statistics in Oklahoma for semi accidents. So of course I went to the U.S. Department of...

I am getting ready to file a major trucking accident case and in reviewing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, I thought I might share them with you. However, before I do that, I wanted to...

The Purcell Register is reporting that a Texas man remained in critical condition Tuesday after the semi he was driving left the interstate and landed on state Highway 74 (Grant Street) in Purcell. This is a horrible accident that shows the devastation a semi can cause in an accident. Our prayers go out to the families of those effecting by this trucking accident. I've posted the story...

I just picked up this very sad story from the Joplin Globe. Apparenlty a family of 4 from Joplin was driving to Dallas when a Semi (truck) struck them from behind at a stop light. Sgt. Brent Crittenden of the Pryor (Okla.) Police Department said witnesses reported that the Hayes' vehicle stopped about 1:15 p.m. for a traffic light at U.S. Highway 69 and Southeast 49th Street."The family had...

Just FYI for all you Oklahoma drivers wondering what the state minimums for insurance are, I have pulled the following, including the penalties for not having insurance. I would recommend that everyone carry more than the state minimum shown below as this is often insufficient to protect you or your assets if a serious injury occurs. Also, because some drivers carry these low state minimums, I...

I thought I would have some fun for those reading this. I'm going to present a hypothetical accident involving three different people. In doing so, your job is to tell me whose case is worth the most under normal tort law and whose case is worth the most under the draconian tort reform (ie corporate immunity) laws being passed by states with hard caps on non-economic damages. Lets assume for...

I don't know if every city has a local paper that reports on traffic conditions at their website. However, in looking at newsok.com every morning, I'm becoming increasingly shocked at the amount of accidents happening in construction zones. From semi-tractors, to passenger automobiles, it appears the negligence of one driver can have devastating effects. For instance, this morning, it is...

A Grand Jury decided to not to file any charges in a fatal truck accident that happened January 5th. A semi-truck driver was pulling out of the NTB Inc. trucking terminal when a 45-year-old woman driving a Buick Regal hit the side of the truck. The fuel tank burst into flames and the driver of the Buick was killed. She had a blood alcohol content of 0.23, far surpassing the legal limit in...

I just saw where The Dallas Morning News on 3/12/2007 discussed a study released by two advocacy groups showing that U.S. fatalities from truck accidents have remained consistent at 100 per week. This week, families of truck crash victims are lobbying Congress and the Bush administration to establish stricter rules. The groups seek to reduce the number of hours truck drivers are allowed to...

A new study has put Oklahoma number 3 in the country for truck accident related fatalities. Police say that cars are resposible for many of the accidents. Trooper Mike Max says if every driver knew what Moore did, there would be a lot fewer accidents on the roadway, "Probably half, and half cars are just as much at fault." Moore agrees that education is the key. "I think everyone should...

A woman was discovered in a sem itrailer that was delivering lettuce to a distribution center. Her body was pinned between two pallets. "Preliminary autopsy results indicate the cause of death to be due to compressional asphyxiation and at this point in the investigation, her death appears to be accidental," Kraemer said. The victim and her husband were at a Dole plant in Yuma picking up a load...

Chris Earley at the Massachusetts Personal Injury Blog brings my attention to another post by a Maryland lawyer who mentions a Jury Verdict Research study which reveals that:From 1996 to 2005, truck accident victims prevailed and received damages in 60 percent of truck accident lawsuits. The average compensation award of these verdicts was $90,000. Not surprisingly, Plaintiffs were more likely...
