Nursing Home Negligence And Abuse | InjuryBoard Oklahoma City

I saw this great oped in the Tulsa World this morning. The article is by Hugh M. Robert and below. This will create a greater degree of responsibility and allow injured Oklahomans to hold nursing homes liable for their neglect."A growing...

The Tulsa World is reporting that an amendment submitted by Sen. Richard Lerblance, D-Hartshorne, to Senate Bill 1549 would require nursing homes to carry at least $250,000 in liability insurance. I truly hope you never have to contact a...

Citing a study by the Oklahoma Center for Consumer & Patient Safety, newsok.com ran a story about Oklahoma nursing homes failure to carry insurance. Don't be confused by the story as the Oklahoman/Newsok.com rarely if ever will run a story that speaks favorable to consumer rights. However, I did find it interesting the comments made by Becky Moore, executive director of the Oklahoma...

I was discussing tort reform with a friend today and I heard my favorite term, Jackpot Justice. Of course I convinced my friend of the error of his ways and the utter fallacy of the tort reform movement. However, I got to thinking, what is Jackpot Justice. I better add a disclaimer, after reading this, this is truly a late night rant against the rhetoric of politicians. Now understand one...

I just recieved one of those calls that every attorney fears. A potential client calls telling me how his daughter was hurt seriously in an accident and that he has been unsuccessfully trying to deal with the insurance company for a long time. He stated his daughter had numerous medical bills and needed an attorney. He told me she had back surgery and permanent injuries. For those of us in...

I just saw the following article from the New York Times discussing a new study by the American Cancer Society which has found that the uninsured and those covered by Medicaid are more likely than those with private insurance to receive a diagnosis of cancer in late stages, often diminishing their chances of survival.

The Daily Oklahoman January 29, 2008 By Don Mecoy Business Writer Imprisoned former state Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 40 times during a civil trial Monday in federal court to avoid answering questions about his relationship with American Fidelity Assurance Co. See the following excerpt from a recent article on the quality of care in our country's nursing homes: LTC reform bill introduced in House The level of discourse about improving the quality of long-term care rose to a new level Tuesday, when three members of the U.S. House introduced the Long Term Care Quality & Modernization Act of 2007 (H.R. 4082). Although there are no illusions in the...

A Nebraska nursing home settled a lawsuit claiming that the facility allowed one patient to lie in her own excrement for extended periods following back surgery.
