As an SUV owner I found the article Vehicle accidents kill two in Oklahoma interesting. It raises questions in my mind whether all SUVs should have a device called Stabilitrak in them. Mine does. Now what is the significance of Stabilitrak? Well according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it is estimated that electronic stability control systems could avoid as many as 10,000 fatal crashes in the U.S. annually if the technology were used on every vehicle.

Now back to the above story, it appears two factors were nvolved– first the rollover of the SUV and secondly the failure of the occupant to wear their seatbelt. Oklahoma law mandates that individuals in a car wear there seatbelts. As a personal injury attorney who has worked on hundreds of car wrecks, I find it astounding everytime I hear of someone dying from not having their seatbelts on. Its my sincere hope that people who read this will remember and/or remind loved ones to wear their seatbelts at all times.

I Preparing to go somewhere these days is more then just grabbing your car keys and going, we now have to watch out for our lives and others around us as we drive. We have to worry about the vehicle safety itself, drinking and driving, texting and driving, being sleep deprived and driving, eating and driving,….are we even safe anymore or should we all ride the bus ~ but then again there is a operator for that too and we are then trusting him with our lives.

Electronic stability control not only prevents crashes, but it makes crashing safer by keeping your vehicle aligned forward. Rollovers happen when your vehicle skids sideways. Rollovers cause nearly one-third of fatalities. By maintaining forward direction, Electronic stability control prevents rollovers. If you strike an object, you don't want to hit it sideways because your door offers very little protection. However, a forward collision allows your bumper, seat belt, head restraint, roll cage, and other passive safety devices to work properly. Electronic stability control not only prevents fatalities it also reduces the seriousness of injuries.
